One topic which had really started to intrigue me since starting the MA/MSc course is different methodologies which can be applied to achieve a result or goal on a project. Be it a new innovative way of thinking or a more traditional process.

We've recently been involved with Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service helping them to analyse key areas of the organisation and to look into their existing branding and marketing.

For the final degree show of our undergrad course we decided to 'think outside of the box' and come up with a theme that reflected each personality on the programme.

We developed the branding, accompanying publications, viral marketing and oversaw the curation of the exhibition area.

Response to ISTD Brief "100"

This was my response to the ISTD brief "100"
A poster that dates the history of Britain's currency system. The final outcome was an A2 screen printed poster in metallic gold ink. A supplement and postage tube also accompanied the piece.

A Guide to Edinburgh

Taking inspiration from a recent trip to Edinburgh and seeing some of the brillaint sites around the city. I began to create a fun an interactive map that would engage with the user allowing them to plan a route around the city easily choosing which attractions to visit.

The idea was to produce a product which would allow the tourist to easily navigate the best route over a vast space without the need for cumbersome large maps.

Just come back from London the other day from my internship at an amazing graphic design agency called KMD, lots of great stuff happening there and it felt great to be part of the design process.

Between working there and managing other work I had a bit time to look around London and do some of the more tourist style things. So I had a look in the Design Museum located along the riverside near Tower Bridge (possibly one of my most favourite areas of London).

Well worth the entry price for any designer looking to take in some brilliant inspiration on their trip. When I visited they had a Mariscal exhibition on at the time (not sure if this is a permenant exhibition or not) but there was some really nice packaging pieces and illustrations that I thought I would share.

One other thing, photography is permitted as long as you don't use a flash!

Tunnels

A project I did a little while back. Simply entitled: Tunnels; the idea behind it was to create a set of images which would create a common collection. The final piece was large format printed A1 on a white gloss paper.

A representation of an overheard conversation from Myspace Mars Planets Radio represneted solely through typography.

A Hard back leather book, featuring folio bound pages on a white stock. The title is screen printed on using varnish and gives a reflective appearence when the book is held.

I decided to experiment with some long exposure shots one night so i took my camera out in Newcastle city centre. I think I'll look into more of this work soon and work on the exposure time.

A brief set at university to rebrand of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburh. The aim was to create a vibrant and welcoming identity that would appeal to a younger market. A range of stationary products and uniforms where created.

A gift which was to be handed out at the banquet. Based on the annual chinese lantern festival a unique piece of packaging would house a silver lantern with a scented candle and a small folded book about the fesitval.

The idea behind this book was to create a set of images that would relate to the text however if they where seperated both would be of a different subject matter. I used games such as guess who, screwball scramble and snakes & ladders.

I bound the book using coptic stitch featuring off white stock. Its a hard back book with brown leather cover and a screen printed title.
